Comparison of alternative arterial anastomosis site during liver transplantation when the recipient’s hepatic artery is unusable
During liver transplantation, when the recipient’s hepatic artery is unusable, an arterial anastomosis performed on the recipient’s splenic or coeliac trunk is associated with better intraoperative and postoperative outcomes.
Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced MRI radiomic features for predicting histological grade of hepatocellular carcinoma
Radiomic features based on Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced MRI performed well in predicting histological grade of hepatocellular carcinoma, with AUCs of 0.777 to 0.944. Compared with traditional logistic regression model, Artificial neural network showed potential advantages in distinguishing between high-grade and low-grade HCCs.
Associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy versus sequential transarterial chemoembolization and portal vein embolization in staged hepatectomy for HBV-related hepatocellular carcinoma: a randomized comparative study
This article provides relatively high-level evidence about the merits and demerits of ALPPS compared with PVE, especially in patients with HBV related HCC, pointing out the higher resection rates and longer OS of ALPPS at the cost of a higher postoperative morbidity rate.
Development and internal validation of the Comprehensive ALPPS Preoperative Risk Assessment (CAPRA) score: is the patient suitable for Associating Liver Partition and Portal vein ligation for Staged hepatectomy (ALPPS)?
The CAPRA Score, based on patient condition and type of procedure, has excellent preoperative prediction of 90-day mortality risk in ALPPS. It therefore provides additional support in patient selection and procedure planning, in combination with already validated scores, volumetry and liver function assessments.
Intraoperative reperfusion assessment of human pancreas allografts using hyperspectral imaging (HSI)
This article describes the first application of hyperspectral imaging in human pancreas allografts. Our novel non-invasive technique is capable to deliver real time visual and quantitative information about the tissue oxygenation, perfusion as well as hemoglobin and water concentration of the organ, subject to investigation.
Liver resection versus liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma within Milan criteria: a meta-analysis of 18,421 patients
LR was associated with poorer OS (HR 1.44, CI: 1.14-1.81, p<0.01) and DFS (HR 2.71, CI: 2.23-3.28, p<0.01) compared to LT. In uninodular HCC, OS was comparable between LR and LT (p=0.13), but DFS remained poorer (p<0.01). Cohorts that underwent enhanced surveillance had comparable OS between LR and LT (p=0.33).
