Liver donor macrosteatosis is associated with adverse long-term outcomes exclusively in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease recipients: a U.S. transplant registry analysis over the last decade

Liver grafts with >30% macrovesicular steatosis were associated with significantly lower early and long-term graft survival in MASLD recipients but showed no such association in MetALD or ALD recipients. Our study suggests steatotic graft allocation in liver transplantation should be guided by recipient SLD subtype.
Optimal timing of reoperation for postoperatively diagnosed T2 gallbladder cancer: a retrospective multicenter cohort study

(01 August 2026)
The optimal timing of reoperation for postoperatively diagnosed T2 gallbladder cancer is 4 to 8 weeks after the initial cholecystectomy. Early reoperation is associated with worse perioperative outcomes, while delayed reoperation is associated with higher risk of recurrence.
Independent risk factors for clinically relevant postoperative pancreatic fistula after robotic pancreatoduodenectomy: the protective role of the modified Blumgart pancreatojejunostomy in a single surgeon retrospective cohort of 220 cases

(01 August 2026)
In a single-surgeon series of 220 robotic pancreatoduodenectomies, standardization of the modified Blumgart pancreatojejunostomy significantly reduced clinically relevant pancreatic fistula rates. Risk-adjusted learning curve analysis showed earlier achievement of proficiency and mastery, supporting routine adoption of this anastomosis during robotic program implementation.
When is enough enough?—predicting adequacy of portal vein embolization for hypertrophy of the future liver remnant in the age of liver venous deprivation

Patients with pre-PVE sFLR <19% and those with gross liver abnormalities or planned for staged or extended right hepatectomy are unlikely to achieve adequate liver remnant hypertrophy with PVE and may benefit from other measures like LVD.
Systematic review and meta-analysis of robotic versus laparoscopic radical cholecystectomy for gallbladder cancer

(01 August 2026)
Robotic surgery is shown to be safe, effective and appears to have better short-term outcomes in comparison to laparoscopic radical cholecystectomy. However, further studies and data are required to validate robotic radical cholecystectomy as the safe and feasible approach.
Monitoring with plasma apolipoprotein A2-isoforms can predict developing new-onset steatotic liver disease caused by pancreatic exocrine insufficiency following pancreatectomy

(01 August 2026)
New-onset steatotic liver disease (SLD) is increasingly reported after pancreatectomy. In this retrospective study, low plasma ApoA2-AT/AT levels (<9.58 µg/mL) significantly correlated with post-operative SLD and were an independent risk factor. ApoA2 isoforms represent a useful biomarker for assessing pancreatic exocrine function and predicting SLD.
